This little fella greeted me as I entered the woods. he was unusually tame, sitting there while I fired off almost a dozen shots. This is about a half frame crop, basically cropping a portrait out of a landscape. Shot in jpeg and processed in ACR4 then CS3. Pretty sharp considering it was wide open with a teleconverter.

Shot a few seconds later in RAW. Processed the same way. Aside from some slight differences in tonality, I find it looking pretty similar to the jpeg shot.

Alternate version of the RAW shot ... more subtle coloring. Perhaps more like it really was.

A shot of my new Feisol 3471 tripod (bottom section not extended) with Markins M10 ball head (they sent the wrong one), Nikon D70s, Tamron 180, Tamron 1.4x, SB600 flash on Roboframe VH2000 bracket, and Lumiquest Soft Box diffuser. I wish I'd seen an insect or two this day.

Idyllic scene with a woman walking her dog. Lovely spring day. Looking into the meadow where I shoot Dragonflies in summer.

Spring blossoms abound in the meadow, with fruit trees everywhere. Dappled sublight gave this trees a pretty look. The Tamron is able, with the 1.4x teleconverter, to reach up into the tree and isolate a single blossom.

Switching over to the Nikon 300mm, I was able to experiment with its amazing ability to isolate individual elements even in the woods. A single tree with the glint of a filament of spider web is the subject here.

At the Wild Bird Center, this goose was sharing a cage with a Mallard, both recovering from some sort of malady. This was shot through the fine wire mesh, which can be seen in shadow on the goose. Stopped down 1/3 stop from wide open, and very sharp.

Harsh contrast and the cage itself play havoc with the capture of its convalescence, but this one turned out nicely anyway.

Also at the Wild Bird Center, about 4 feet from the cage where the sick goose and duck were residing. This scene gave me a serious Normal Rockwell vibe, and the lovely dappled sunlight enhanced by shade white balance really sets it off.

Back to the woods the next week, and this little fellow was sitting on a tree stump. He let me creep closer and closer until I was near the minimum focusing limit. If you look closely, you can see me with the cam and tripod in his eye. The 300 is sharp.
