On a nice fall day, Nick and I thought it would be fun to shoot a bit of skating on his rail in the front street (technically, our side street.) I started with the Sigma 10-20 ultra-wide, but found that it did not do a good job of isolating him and of filling the frame. I would have to be too close to do that. So we moved immediately to the longer telephoto, my 70-210 f4, which allowed me to shoot from further away, out of the flying-board danger zone. We gone some very nice shots, although focus was an issue ... I tried locking focus on the middle of the bar and switching to manual so there would be no hesitation when I went to capture the shot, but this did not always work. More importantly, the dim light today made it difficult to push my shutter speeds ... I do regret not pushing the ISO to 800. These are mostly at 320. |
